Colorado paycheck calculator, 2026
Colorado applies a single flat rate to federal taxable wages, which makes it one of the simplest states to withhold for — there are no brackets and no state allowances to claim. Because it starts from the federal figure, anything that changes your federal taxable wages, such as a 401(k) contribution, changes the Colorado tax as well. That linkage is worth knowing: in Colorado, a pre-tax deduction saves you tax twice.
The Colorado withholding rate, 2026
4.4%applied to taxable wages
Colorado works this out from a formula rather than a bracket table, so the amount withheld depends on what your state form says as well as what you earn. These are the steps the calculation actually takes:
- Subtract the filing-status withholding amount and floor at zero
- Multiply annual taxable wages by 4.40%; per-period withholding is rounded to the nearest dollar

Notes and caveats
- This NFC formula uses the federal filing-status default withholding amount. Colorado Form DR 0004 can override that amount, but NFC does not accept a separate state certificate in this formula.

This is an estimate of payroll withholding, not tax advice, and not a prediction of your final tax bill. Withholding is what your employer sends in during the year; what you actually owe is settled when you file.
