Maine paycheck calculator, 2026
Maine uses a three-bracket schedule with a standard deduction that phases out as income rises, so the effective rate keeps increasing past the top bracket threshold. The withholding form asks for allowances and supports an additional per-period amount, which is worth using if you have income outside your salary.

Bonuses and supplemental pay
Maine withholds supplemental wages — bonuses, commission, severance — at a flat 5%, separately from your regular salary. A bonus can therefore have a different amount withheld than the same money paid as salary, which is usually why a bonus arrives smaller than expected.

Notes and caveats
- The withholding-method deductions ($12,450 single and $27,750 married) intentionally differ from the basic standard deductions printed on the booklet cover; the percentage-method figures are used here.
- Maine prints the phase-out formula with four-decimal precision. The formula is evaluated exactly and the money result is rounded to cents, the engine's required money unit, before the final whole-dollar per-period rounding.
- Separately paid supplemental wages may use a flat 5% rate; combined supplemental wages use the regular method.
- A missing or invalid W-4ME defaults to single with zero allowances.

This is an estimate of payroll withholding, not tax advice, and not a prediction of your final tax bill. Withholding is what your employer sends in during the year; what you actually owe is settled when you file.
